AND BEVERLY'S TAKE ON THE EVENING:
Day 2 was inspiring! Went to Emily's List town hall where we learned that women need to take an active role in our political system. Also learned that they will help seed (money that is) women candidates and give support to her campaign.
Last night at the hall, you could feel the excitement. As a Christian, I was delighted to hear Elizabeth Warren's comment quoting Matthew... "when you do unto the least, you do unto me." The Democratic Party stands up for the poor, the oppressed, the ill, the elderly, the homeless, ..... Do you want a president who has our back, or one who turns his back to you?
Of course, the highlight was President Clinton who told it as it is, debunking the Republican "alternative reality." As we were walking to the convention, I overheard some Charlotte residents talking about the election and they felt Obama would win. The point we have heard over and over is that this is a turning point election. I am more determined to do my part to mobilize Democratic voters in my precinct to vote!
SEPT. 4TH: FROM BEVERLY LEDBETTER
Last night was a night of inspiring stories. If I was an undecided voter, after hearing the story of Zoey’s mother, a mother who faced every mother’s worst nightmare, a child who is dangerously ill, I would vote for Obama. Listening to her story of the effect of the Affordable Healthcare Act on her family, easing one worry for a family who needs to concentrate on her child not an insurance company‘s decision to cover or not to cover, I would vote for Obama.
Some call it Obamacare, but after listening to her story, it is really Obama Cares.
I am not sure if on tv they showed what was happening on stage during her story, but her daughter was jumping up and down and when the audience began to applaud, she clapped her little hands and danced.
President Obama embodies my favorite scripture “ when you do unto the least, you do unto me.”
The highlight of the evening was Michelle’s story. Watching her connect to the crowd and the crowd’s response to her was amazing. Heartfelt and real. The one thing that I have learned about the Democratic convention is that it really is not that scripted for the delegates. Before certain speeches there is a mad dash of activity as signs are passed out, but the crowd’s response to the speakers are not scripted or cued.
Spontaneous bouts of applause and crowd instigated chants are the norm. Florida is a large delegation, split on two sides of an aisle with whips handing out the signs (all union volunteers I may add) and keeping us abreast of what’s up next.
After the convention, we went to the MSNBC stage (we were on tv in the crowd). Next, Michael and I headed over to the Blue Bash, a party for Alabama, Florida, and South Carolina. Note: some of the male delegates dance as bad as Michael! On to tonight with President Clinton. (sure wish Hillary could be here, but the Pendleton Act keeps her away) Tonight, watch for Elena's video!

Sept. 4th:
What an exciting morning. First we had great speeches from Gov. Mark Warner of my birth state of Virginia followed by a rousing stand ovation speech by Mayor Cory Booker.
Next I headed to the AFT luncheon and met many great teachers from across the US. But walking down the street, I met Rev Jesse Jackson and had the opportunity to shake his hand.
Next I walked two blocks with Democratic strategist James Carville.. He reminded me that Florida has to get this voting thing right this year! Tonight is Michelle Obama's speech and the Florida delegation is on the second tier upfront.
